I will change some spelling and some grammar as I transcribe.
My grandmother, 'Olive' Letha Rose Schnack, wrote this letter when she was 10-years old, to her sister 'Florence' May Rose Lawler. Kingston, New York is in Ulster County.
72 Clinton Ave.
Kingston, N.Y.
Nov. 11, 1918
Dear Florence,
We went to a parade today. It was for Peace. The war is over. Oh! We had a fine time. There was no school today but there is tomorrow.
There
were Red Cross nurses, 7 Hand Grenade Workers, Up-(?)-Date girls (girls
from a factory). All stores were closed.
There went a car down with a box strapped on it and out of the top of the box was the Kaiser's head.
Then in the parade, there were 6 young men with a casket on their
shoulders (The Kaiser).
Then two boys carried a board and on it was painted a yellow dog whose last name was Kaiser.
Flags were waving and the people in cars had tin cans tied on their cars. They would make all the noise they could. The people rang cow bells, pounded on wash tubs (tin) and made all the noise they could.
Will close.
Your Sister
Olive Letha
