Charles Elbert “Chuck” Rose


Born 6 July 1928 at Oneonta, Otsego County, New York
Died 12 February 2017 at Tucson, Pima County, Arizona

Chuck was the second of five children born to Clifton More Rose and Lena Mae Carrington Rose. He was raised at Oneonta and Gilboa where his father was a dairy farmer. He graduated from Oneonta High School in 1945 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1946. In 1949, he entered Saint Lawrence University at Canton, New York while also working as a Research Engineer with Bendix Aviation Corporation with high altitude jet engine ignition systems. Upon graduation from Saint Lawrence in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in physics, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Chuck married on 9 April 1954 at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Chuck and his wife made their first home at Augsburg, Germany and were the parents of two daughters, both born at Stuttgart, Germany. In 1961, he received a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University. In 1966, he was promoted to Major and served in Vietnam at Cu Chi and, in 1969, was promoted to Colonel. Sometime during the 1970s, he and his wife resided near Quebec, Canada. Later they resided at Las Cruces, New Mexico before relocating permanently to Tucson in 2014. Chuck is John More Association Jonas line cousin #426242. He is my first cousin, once removed.
