William More Decker, Jr.

Born 8 January 1894 at Kingston, Ulster County, New York
Died 17 November 1970 at Buffalo, Erie County, New York

William was the younger of two children born to William More Decker and Margaret Elizabeth “Bessie” Smith Decker. He was raised at Buffalo where his father was first a physician and later a manufacturer of a nursing bottle that he held patents on. William studied at Yale University, probably the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale.

William married to Annette Catherine Coit on 21 August 1917 at Wanakah, New York. Wanakah is a hamlet in the town of Hamburg. William and Annette were the parents of three children; William More Decker III, Ann Decker, and Michael Coit Decker. He served with the Reserve Corp and was vice-president of his father’s Hygeia Nursing Bottle Company when he registered for the World War I draft. After his discharge from military service, where he had served in France in the Motor Truck Department, he returned to the manufacturing of nursing bottles at Buffalo. In 1930, Hygeia was sold to Hazel-Atlas Glass Company which was purchased in 1953 by Ball Corporation. About 1930, William relocated his family to Daytona Beach, Florida where he was the president of a glass bottle manufacturing business. They returned to Buffalo by 1935 where he was an executive with Hygeia.

He was a resident of Derby, New York when he died at Buffalo General Hospital. He was buried in a Decker family plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Buffalo.

William is John More Association Jonas line cousin #44132 and my paternal third cousin twice removed.

Sally Ann Wagner Burnett

Born 10 February 1821 at Schoharie County, New York
Died 14 January 1892 at Schoharie County, New York

Sally married to Ambrose Burnett on 14 October 1845. He was the son of Matthias S. Burnett and Susan Guerin Burnett. Sally and Ambrose were the parents of nine children; James Burnett, Loisa Burnett, Orris Emerson Burnett, Joseph Lindsey Burnett, George Levi Burnett, William Lewis Burnett, Susan Elizabeth “Permilla” Burnett, Sarah Jane Burnett (my 2nd great grandmother), and Roxey Ellen Burnett. Their first two children, James and Loisa, both died young and before 1850.

Sally and Ambrose made their home at Blenheim, New York where her husband was first a laborer later a farmer. The family relocated to Summit, New York about 1859 where her husband was a day laborer. The family relocated to Jefferson, New York about 1870 where her husband was the owner and operator of a farm. After Sally’s death in 1892, her husband returned to Blenheim where he resided with his son, Orris, and daughter, Roxey. He died in 1897. Sally and Ambrose are buried together at H.W. Ploss, Blenheim/Eminence at Schoharie County, New York.

*Notes-Her first name is spelled Sally in records and in my family tree, although her grave marker shows her name as Saly. I have yet to find any information about Sally before her marriage. I do not know the names of her parents. Her maiden name may have been Wagoner or Von Wagoner or any other variation. Her date of birth is based on the grave marker death date, AE age, and a reverse birthday calculator. Burnett is also found spelled Burnet. I welcome any new information available from a reader of this blog post.

Sally and Ambrose were my maternal 3rd great-grandparents.
