Arthur was the
third of six children born to William Edsall and Sarah Jane Swartwout Edsall. He was raised at Roxbury where his father
was the owner and operator of a farm. Arthur married first to Julia M. Carroll on
5 February 1891 at Roxbury. She died in 1897. Arthur and Julia were the parents
of two children, Laura A. Edsall and Carroll Arthur Edsall. It would appear
that his son, Carroll, was adopted by Arthur’s brother, James Monroe Edsall,
after the death of his wife. Arthur married next to Nellie Preston on 28
November 1900 at Roxbury. They made their home at Roxbury where he was the
owner and operator of a blacksmith shop. Arthur and Nellie were the parents of
one child, Preston William Edsall. Arthur was buried at Fairlawn Cemetery at Prattsville, New York with his first wife. He is John More Association Jean Line cousin #M5622 and was the husband of my third cousin, three times removed.
