Born 4 June 1867 at West Kill, Greene County, New York
Died 7 August 1898 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York
George was the fourth of five children born to George Wheeler and Dolly Louisa More Wheeler. Shortly after his father's death in 1871, he and his mother and sisters relocated to Roxbury. George resided first in the household of his maternal uncle, Otis Preston More, the owner and operator of a farm at Roxbury. He was reunited with his mother and sisters about 1880 when his mother had secured a house of their own. When George was about 16 years old, he relocated to Rondout, New York. Rondout is a village in Kingston, New York. George was employed by Abel A. Crosby to work in his wholesale hardware store at Kingston. He was employed thus for 15 years. When his health began to fail, he returned to Roxbury to the home of his sister, presumably Harriet Preston Wheeler who had married to Wilbur Tupper. George never married and was remembered as kind and thoughtful.
