Harold Amasa Smith

Died 31 March 1975 at Walton, Delaware County, New York

Harold was the first of six children born to Wallace Bruce Smith and Hattie Redmond Smith. With the exception of one year (1900) that his father rented and worked a farm at Delhi, New York, he was raised at Bovina, New York where his father was the owner and operator of a farm. Harold was a cheese maker at Bovina when he married to Hazel Leona Sutton of De Lancey, New York on 10 September 1917 at the parsonage of Northfield Church at Northfield, New York. They resided first with his parents at Bovina but soon relocated to Sterlington, New York. Sterlington is a hamlet in the town of Ramapo near Sloatsburg, New York. At this place, Harold was employed at Skyland Farms. They resided there only a couple of years before relocating to High Street at Walton. About 1957, they relocated to Beers Brook at Walton. Harold was an expert automobile mechanic. He was employed at D. W. Coulter Garage, Bronson-Smith Motors, and Boteau’s Dodge Sales; all at Walton. He was a member of Company F, 1^st Regiment, New York Guard from 1942 to 1945. Harold and Hazel were the parents of six children; Glenon Marie Smith, Gertrude Maye Smith, twins Reva Leah Smith and Reta Letha Smith, Dorothy Nedra Smith, and the youngest daughter still living. Harold was buried in a Smith family plot at Walton Cemetery. He was my fourth cousin twice removed and John More Association Jean Line cousin #55231.
