Born 29 June
1898 at Wyoming County, Pennsylvania

Hazel was
the daughter of George E. Sutton and Ada May “Addie” Terry
Sutton. She was raised at Eaton, Pennsylvania where her father was a railroad
tie maker. The family relocated to Tompkins, New York about 1905 where her
father was a mill sawyer. The family relocated again about 1910 to Walton, New
York where her father purchased their home at 77 High Street and was the proprietor
of a saw mill. Hazel was a resident of De Lancey, New York when she married to
Harold Amasa Smith on 10 September 1917 at the parsonage of Northfield Church
at Northfield, New York. He was a cheese maker at Bovina, New York. They
resided first with her husband’s parents at Bovina but soon relocated to
Sterlington, New York. Sterlington is a hamlet in the town of Ramapo near
Sloatsburg, New York. At this place, her husband was employed at Skyland Farms.
They resided there only a couple of years before relocating to 20 High Street
at Walton. About 1957, they relocated to Beers Brook at Walton. Hazel and
Harold were the parents of six children; Glenon Marie Smith, Gertrude Maye
Smith, twins Reva Leah Smith and Reta Letha Smith, Dorothy Nedra Smith, and the
youngest daughter still living. Hazel was buried next to her husband in a Smith
family plot at Walton Cemetery. She was the wife of my fourth cousin twice
removed.
