One blog I subscribe to is Genealogy Tip of the Day. Today's post, Are You Editing or Transcribing?, must have been written for me.
I've been using the word 'transcribing' for what I do with the letters I've posted to date when I should have used the word 'editing.' I think I am creating a reader friendly letter based on what I think correct spelling is; what I think correct grammar is; what I think is correct punctuation.
Whew! About the only part of my disclosures page that is true is when I tell you that I am not a master of the English language. But, to rationalize my error, I did say I might change spellings, grammar, and punctuation.
My error is that I shouldn't have defined my work as transcribing. What I am doing, is in fact, editing. Just wanted to clarify my intentions...
I watched two informative Legacy webinars today. Watch Geoff Live: Adding a Census Record, a temporarily unlocked archived webinar and, airing live today, You Use What? Wonderful Uses for Unusual Tools.
The latter included referrals to some promising websites; not just for
research but also useful tools of the trade, so to speak.
By the way, Legacy Family Tree Webinars, has some of the best informative and instructional topics and popular speakers. I've been watching these webinars for about a year. Some, for me, are duds; far more are extraordinary. They are free to watch live and free to watch for about a week after they air. A paid subscription is available to those who want unlimited access to the webinars and a syllabus for each.
