Julia Alice Grant Jackson




Born 23 January 1850 at Franklin, Delaware County, New York
Died 14 January 1919 at Roscoe, Sullivan County, New York

Most commonly known as Alice, she was the first of three children born to Alexander Harris Grant and Julia Merrick Grant. Alice married to James Knox Polk Jackson on 10 January 1871 at Franklin. Alice and James were the parents of five children; Julia Alice Grant Jackson who died within months of her birth, Alexander Grant Jackson, Mary Lulu Jackson, James P. Jackson who died at age five, and Fanny Myra Jackson. Alice and James made their home first at Franklin. After the death of their first born child in March 1872, and in the fall of 1872, they relocated to Oneonta, New York where her husband was a lawyer. They returned to Franklin in the fall of 1877 and in the fall of 1879 relocated permanently to Margaretville, a village in the town of Middletown, New York where her husband was a newspaper publisher and lawyer. Alice died at the home of her daughter, Fanny, who was married to Charles Moore Allaben. She was buried at Margaretville Cemetery at Margaretville. Alice was John More Association cousin #1411 and my third cousin three times removed.
