Manta Wright Shutts

Born 1854 at Union County, Ohio
Died 19 October 1928 at Oneonta, Otsego County, New York

Manta was the daughter of Charles Wright. Nothing is known of her childhood. She married first to a Mr. Cary/Carey. She and Mr. Cary were the parents of four children, names unknown, of which two were still living when Manta married next to Watson More Shutts, more commonly known as Francis W. Shutts, on 11 April 1910 at Marion County, Ohio. Manta and Francis made their home first at Magnetic Springs Village, in Leesburg Township, Ohio and later relocated to Marion, Ohio where her husband was a railroad roundhouse laborer. They relocated again about 1925 to Oneonta where her husband was a laborer with Delaware & Hudson Railroad. She had a residence on West Broadway at Oneonta when, on a rainy evening, she was struck by an automobile as she crossed a street. She died at Fox Memorial Hospital as a result of a fractured skull several hours later. Manta and Francis had no children. Manta was buried in Oneonta Plains Cemetery. She is John More Association Jonas line cousin #R4225 and the third wife of my 1st cousin three times removed.
*Note-John More Association records indicate that Manta was born in 11 November 1856.
*Note-I found one record with her name as Samantha. Manta may have been a nickname.
