George was the
third of five children born to George William Fitch and Harriet Sinclair Fitch. He was raised at Walton where his father was
the owner and operator of N. Fitch and Sons, the largest store in Walton, located on the corner of Mead Street and North Street. His father trained him
for the mercantile business. As a young man, George relocated to the state of Washington
for several years where he was engaged as a banker. He returned to Walton by
1900 and resumed his partnership in the family mercantile. He sold the business
about 1937 and retired. George married to Blanche Evelyn Ells on 19 November
1902 at Brooklyn. They made their home on Mead Street at Walton where her
husband was a merchant. Blanche and George were the parents of two children,
Alice Evelyn Fitch and Agnes Miriam Fitch. George died at Tompkins County
Memorial Hospital at Ithaca where he had a surgery to remove a goitre. He was buried
at Walton Cemetery at Walton. George was my third cousin three times removed.
