Born 30
December 1837 at Walton, Delaware County, New York
Died 11 May
1899 at Walton, Delaware County, New York
George was
the son of Nathaniel Fitch and Sally Benedict Fitch. He was a life-long resident of Walton where he was a prominent merchant as was his father before him. He began his
business life as a clerk in his father's store, N. Fitch and Sons; and, at the
age of 21 years, his father made him a partner. George married to Harriet Sinclair on 30 May 1861 at Walton. George and Harriet were the parents of five
children; Maria More Fitch, Edward Fitch, George Sinclair Fitch, Roderick Fitch,
and Anna Sinclair Fitch. George was a member of the Board of Education,
president of the old Delaware County bank, and treasurer of the Delaware Land
and Trust Company. He was remembered as pious and conscientious. George was
buried in a Fitch family plot at Walton Cemetery. He was the husband of my
second cousin four times removed.
