Alice Evelyn Fitch Scarlett

Born 8 February 1904 at Walton, Delaware County, New York
Died 13 July 1996 at Springfield, Clark County, Ohio

Alice, often commonly known as Evelyn, was the elder of two children born to George Sinclair Fitch and Blanche Evelyn Ells Fitch. She was raised on Mead Street at Walton where her father was the owner and operator of a mercantile. Alice graduated from Walton High School in 1920 and then enrolled at Mount Holyoke College at South Hadley, Massachusetts. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1925 and, for a short time, she was the secretary to the dean at that place. She relocated to Manhattan, New York City sometime before 1930 where she was the secretary to the provost of Washington Square College. Alice married to Joseph Hull Scarlett on 27 May 1939 at Briarcliff Manor, New York. They made their home first on West Fourth Street at New York City where her husband was engaged in the investments business. Alice and Joseph were the parents of two children; a son and a daughter. The family relocated to West Orange, New Jersey about 1945.  After her husband’s death in 1986, Alice relocated permanently to Springfield, Ohio where her daughter had a residence. Alice was buried in Walton Cemetery. She was my fourth cousin twice removed.
