Ellen Eusebia Smith Schloss

Born 25 June 1899 at Bovina, Delaware County, New York
Died 25 February 1990 at Walton, Delaware County, New York

Ellen was the second of six children born to Wallace Bruce Smith and Hattie Redmond Smith. With the exception of one year that her father rented a farm in Delhi, New York, Ellen was raised at Bovina where her father was the owner and operator of a dairy farm. Ellen was a resident of, and teacher at, Bovina when she married to Horace Vandermark Schloss on 29 June 1921 at Bovina Center, New York. Her husband was a silk weaver residing at Walton at the time of their marriage. They made their home at Walton where her husband was later the proprietor of a filling station and taxi service. After his death in 1947 as a result of a tragic car accident, Ellen joined the office staff of Delaware County Heart Association. She retired in 1965 but continued to help out when the office experienced busy times. Ellen and Horace were the parents of four children; Marion Virginia Schloss, twins June Helen Schloss and Jean Harriet Schloss, and Marjorie Claudia Schloss. Ellen was buried with her husband in a Welton family plot at Walton Cemetery. She was my fourth cousin twice removed.
