Charles was
the first of seven children born to Andrew Shutts and Deborah Permelia More Shutts. He was raised at Roxbury where his father was
the owner and operator of a farm and later a day laborer. His father died in
1860 when Charles was 12-years of age. Charles married to Jennette E. McKenzie
on 18 October 1870 at Stamford. They made their home first at that place and
relocated briefly to Roxbury about 1880. They returned to Stamford about 1885
where he was a farmer. Charles and Jennette were the parents of six children;
Mary Isabel Shutts, Elizabeth D. Shutts, Margaret Anne Shutts, John McKenzie
Shutts, Laura Mabel Shutts, and Jessie Augusta Shutts. Charles was buried at
Stamford Cemetery at Stamford. He was my first cousin three times removed.
