Jennette E. McKenzie Shutts

Born 18 April 1853 at Stamford, Delaware County, New York
Died 27 January 1945 at Stamford, Delaware County, New York

Jennette was the daughter of Scottish immigrant parents, John Brown McKenzie and Isabella Denham McKenzie. She was raised at Stamford where her father was the owner and operator of a farm. Jennette married to Charles Mallory Shutts on 18 October 1870 at Stamford. They made their home first at that place and relocated briefly to Roxbury, New York about 1880. They returned to Stamford about 1885 where her husband was a farmer. Her husband died in 1895 and Jennette then managed the farm with help from hired laborers. In September 1916, she took an extended trip to the West, traveling to Nebraska, Montana, and California before returning to Montana where she resided with her son, John, at Big Timber for several years. She returned to Stamford about 1925 where she resided in the home of her daughter, Mabel, who had married to William Pickens. Jennette and Charles were the parents of six children; Mary Isabel Shutts, Elizabeth D. Shutts, Margaret Anne Shutts, John McKenzie Shutts, Laura Mabel Shutts, and Jessie Augusta Shutts. Jennette was buried with her husband at Stamford Cemetery at Stamford. She was the wife of my first cousin three times removed. The wife of her brother, John Brown McKenzie, Jr., is buried in the same plot.

"Nettie" 1943
This photograph was found in a collection of family memorabilia that I received from my mother in 2012. The location is presumably at her home in Stamford.
