Laura Mabel Shutts Pickens

Born 26 October 1885 at Stamford, Delaware County, New York
Died 28 November 1961 at Stamford, Delaware County, New York

More commonly known as Mabel, she was the fifth of six children born to Charles Mallory Shutts and Jennette E. McKenzie Shutts. Mabel was raised at Stamford where her father was a farmer. He died when she was nine-years old. Mabel married to William Henry Pickens on 15 February 1905 at Stamford. They made their home first at Kortright, New York where her husband was a creamery worker. They returned to Stamford about 1908 where he was the owner and operator of a dairy farm. Her husband died in 1929 and Mabel continued to operate the farm with the aid of hired farm laborers. Her widowed mother resided in her home for many years. Mabel and William were the parents of one child, Helen Jeanette Pickens. Mabel died at her home after an illness of about four years. She is buried next to her husband at Stamford Cemetery at Stamford. She was my second cousin twice removed.
