William Harrison Underwood

Born 28 December 1814 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York
Died 16 October 1887 at Stamford, Delaware County, New York

William was one of fourteen children born to Oliver Underwood and Jemima Parker Underwood. His parents were natives of Connecticut who relocated to Roxbury about 1796. William was raised at Roxbury where his father was a physician. William was a farmer when he married to Maria Laraway More on 11 May 1853 at Roxbury. They made their home first on Rose’s Brook at Stamford, New York where he was the owner and operator of a farm. He sold this farm about 1865 and bought another on the river flats between Hobart, New York and South Kortright, New York. Suffering from dyspepsia, he retired from farming about 1877 and they relocated to Hobart village. A year later, in 1878, they purchased a home at Stamford where they lived until his death in 1887. Maria and William were the parents of four children; Edward A. Underwood, Jennie Eliza Underwood, Hattie More Underwood, and Otis More Underwood. William was buried at Stamford Cemetery at Stamford. He was the husband of my second cousin four times removed.
