George Amasa Travis

Born 20 July 1909 at Lake Delaware, Delaware County, New York
Died 17 May 1974 at Unadilla, Otsego County, New York

George was the only child of James Hala Travis and Charlotte Douglas Smith Travis. He was raised on Little Delaware Road at Delhi, New York where his father was the owner and operator of a general farm. His mother died in 1919 when he was but nine-years of age and he was then raised by his maternal uncle, Wallace Bruce Smith, a dairy farmer at Bovina, New York. George was a resident of Walton, New York and a creamery man at that place when he married to Pauline Gertrude Alverson on 15 July 1927 at Walton. They made their home first on Third Brook Road at Walton where he was a farm laborer. The family relocated to 16 High Street at Walton about 1940 when George was a woodwork factory laborer. They relocated again by 1952 to Franklin Depot, New York. About 1972, they relocated permanently to 7 Siber Street at Unadilla, New York when George retired from the Electrical Components Division of Bendix Corporation at Sidney, New York. It was in his home at Unadilla that he died unexpectedly. George was buried at Walton Cemetery. He was John More Association Jean Line cousin #55261 and my fourth cousin twice removed. George and Pauline were the parents of four children; three daughters including Betty Jane Travis and one son.
*Note-Lake Delaware borders Delhi, New York. The Post Office established an office at that place in 1862 and, until 1881, it was known as Bovina Valley.
