Jean was the
third of four children born to Horace Vandermark Schloss and Ellen Eusebia Smith Schloss. She was raised at Walton where her father was
the owner and operator of a filling station. She was a 1944 graduate of Walton High School. Jean married to Ralph Winfield Welton
on 29 June 1946 at Walton. Jean’s first born twin, June Helen Schloss, also married
in the same ceremony, to Ralph’s brother, Allen Eugene Welton. The wedding date
itself was the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents’ marriage. Jean
and Ralph were employed at Kayser Silk Mill at Walton when they married and made their home at
Walton, relocating to Brewerton before 1992. Jean and Ralph were the parents of
two children, a daughter and a son. Jean
was John More Association Jean Line cousin #552323 and my fifth cousin once
removed. She was buried with her husband in a Schloss/Welton family plot at Walton Cemetery.
