More
commonly known as Nellie, she was the daughter of Scottish parents, William S.
Murray and Agnes Rankin or Rankine Murray.
She immigrated to America in 1886 and was a compositor with the Walton Reporter
newspaper when she married to David More on 14 October 1891 at Walton. Nellie
was the first female hired by the newspaper. Nellie and David made their home
at 24 Mead Street at that place and were the parents of two children; Margaret
Fleming More and Frank Townsend More. Nellie’s husband was first a clerk, and
then a stock dealer. About 1905, he was the owner and operator of a business
dealing in farm tools. About 1910, he was a dealer of wagons but returned to
the business of farm tools and hardware about 1915. This was also about the
time that the family purchased a home at 34 Mead Street where they would live
permanently. Nellie died at this place after a lengthy illness. She was buried
next to her husband at Walton Cemetery. She was the wife of my second cousin
four times removed.
Grave photos were obtained myself on 10 August 2015. In the More family plot photo, Ellen's marker is seen at the far left. The three ground markers are, from left to right, Ellen, her husband David, and their son, Frank.
