Lewis Lawrence More

Born 24 June 1902 at Beerston, Delaware County, New York
Died 11 September 1979 at South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County, California

Lewis was the third of five children born to Lewis Cone More and Julia Florence Love More. He was raised at Beerston, a community in the Town of Walton, New York where his father was the owner and operator of a successful farm. Lewis graduated from Michigan State Automobile School at Detroit, Michigan in 1923 and married to Mildred Rebecca Miller on 24 June 1924 at Oneonta, New York. At the time of their marriage, Lewis resided at Walton and worked as a farmer; Mildred was a resident of Morris, New York. They made their home first at East Walton in the household of Lewis’ parents and he worked on his father’s farm while his wife helped his mother with the housekeeping. They relocated briefly, early in 1930, to Morris where they resided in the household of Mildred’s parents, Clinton L. Miller and Anna R. Webb Miller. Later that same year, they returned to Walton where Lewis had work as a creamery laborer. Sometime after 1940, they relocated to Rochester, New York where Lewis was employed by Eastman Kodak Company. Sometime after 1961, they relocated permanently to California near where their son, Robert, resided. Lewis and Mildred were the parents of four children; Robert Lawrence More, Charles Richard More, Florence Rosalia More, and Catherine Rebecca More. Where Lewis died is somewhat of a mystery. John More Association records indicate that he died at South Lake Tahoe at El Dorado County, California. The California Death Index indicates that he died at Placer County, California which borders the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. The Social Security Death Index indicates that Lewis and Mildred might have had two homes; one at Walnut, Los Angeles County, California and another at Auburn, Placer County, California. Lewis was buried at Walton Cemetery at Walton, New York. He was my third cousin three times removed.
