Amanda was
the elder of two daughters born to Lincoln Hopkins and Jane H. Northam Hopkins. She was raised by her mother at Westfield,
New York in the home of Amanda’s maternal grandparents, Solomon and Jane
Hopkins Northam. Her grandfather was the owner and operator of a farm. Amanda was a
school teacher at Cortland, New York when she married to John More Seacord on
17 October 1876. He was a grocer at Cortlandville, New York. They made their
home at Batavia, New York where her husband was first a pipe manufacturer, then
a shipping clerk, and finally a rubber tire factory inspector. Her husband died
in 1920 and she then made her home with the family of her son, Jay, at Buffalo,
New York. He was a rector at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church at that place. She
relocated with Jay’s family to Bloomington, Illinois in 1923 where her son was
the rector at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church. It was at that place that
Amanda died. She was buried with her husband at Grand View Cemetery at Batavia.
Amanda and John were the parents of three sons; John Milton Seacord, Earl
Lincoln Seacord, and Jay Gould Seacord. Amanda is John More Association Edward Line cousin #M854 and was the wife of my second cousin four times removed.
