Elizabeth Estelle Smith Chilson



Born 14 August 1885 at Catskill, Greene County, New York
Died 21 December 1974 at Kingston, Ulster County, New York

Elizabeth was the seventh of ten children born to Chauncey Smith and Aravesta Lee Lewis Smith. She was raised at Catskill where her father was a grain dealer and later a coal merchant. Elizabeth married to Eugene Alexander Chilson on 2 January 1905 at Catskill. They made their home first at Catskill where her husband was the manager of Union Pacific Tea Company. The family relocated, in 1912, to Patchogue, New York, a village in the town of Brookhaven on the south shore of Long Island, where her husband was employed by National Biscuit Company. The family relocated permanently to Kingston in 1928 where her husband opened a bonds and securities company and in 1933 incorporated as Chilson Newbury and Company; investment programs for institutions, individuals, attorneys. Dealers in Hudson Valley Securities, Keystone Custodian Funds, Mass Investment Trust, and other investment funds. Her husband died at their home on Washington Street in 1950 and was buried at Town of Catskill Cemetery. Upon Elizabeth's death in 1974, she was also buried at Town of Catskill Cemetery. Elizabeth and Eugene were the parents of two children, Gladys Elizabeth Chilson, who died in 1914 at the age of eight years, and George Lewis Chilson. Elizabeth is John More Association Jean Line cousin #5.10.17 and was my third cousin three times removed.
