Emma was the
daughter of Jackson Sellers and Matilda Ann Harrison
Sellers. Her mother was a niece of the 9th United States President,
William Henry Harrison. I found no information about Emma before she married to
George Washington Seacord on 22 November 1877 at Cedar Vale, Kansas. Her
husband, at the time of their marriage, was the principal of Neosho Rapids Seminary
at Neosho Rapids, Kansas. They made their home first at Agnes City, Kansas
where her husband and father-in-law operated a farm. In 1892, her husband was
engaged in the work of the Free Methodist ministry at Freeport, Kansas. The
family relocated to Prairie, Oklahoma where her husband was the owner and
operator of a farm. The family relocated again to Ontario, California about
1910 where her husband was the co-owner and operator of an alfalfa farm with
their son James. James died in 1911 and by 1917, Emma and George had
relocated to Enid, Oklahoma where George was the pastor at Free Methodist
Church. About 1920, they had relocated to Wilmington, California where her
husband was a driller at the Los Angeles Ship Yards. About 1930, they relocated
to Los Angeles, California where they resided with their son William. Emma's husband
died in 1932 and she relocated to Rowe, South Dakota to make her home with her
daughter, Carrie. About 1935, the family relocated to Fort Pierre, South Dakota
and in 1938 to Guthrie Center, Iowa where her son-in-law was the owner and
operator of a farm. It was at this place that Emma died, although family
records indicate that she died at Dodge, Iowa, a small rural township southwest
of Des Moines. She was buried at Coon Rapids Cemetery at Coon Rapids, Iowa. Emma
and George were the parents of five children; Clifford Eugene Seacord who died at
one-year of age, Carrie Ethelred Seacord, James McDowell Seacord, George Ralph
Seacord, and William Guy Seacord. Emma was John More Association Edward Line cousin #M858 and the wife of my second cousin four times removed.
