John More Seacord

Born 14 October 1844 at Bovina, Delaware County, New York
Died 21 February 1920 at Batavia, Genesee County, New York

John was the fourth of eleven children born to James McCune Seacord and Maria More Seacord. He was raised at Roxbury, New York where his father was the owner and operator of a farm. The family relocated to Cortlandville, New York about 1849 where his father was the owner and operator of another farm. In 1872, his father relocated the family to Denver, Colorado. John opted to remain in Cortlandville where he resided at a boarding house operated by Harriet Benjamin. John was a grocer at that place when he married to Amanda Jane Hopkins on 17 October 1876. She was a school teacher at Cortland, New York. They made their home at Batavia, New York where he was first a pipe manufacturer, then a shipping clerk, and finally a rubber tire factory inspector. He was retired from his occupations by the 1920 federal census and died the following month. He was buried at Grand View Cemetery at Batavia. John and Amanda were the parents of three sons; John Milton Seacord, Earl Lincoln Seacord, and Jay Gould Seacord. John is John More Association Edward Line cousin #854 and was my second cousin four times removed.
Note-
In one family record, April 1925 issue of The Historical Journal of the More Family, his name is recorded as John Milton More Seacord.
