Bruce Smith Preston

Born 13 October 1863 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York
Died 11 April 1933 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York

Bruce was the first of three children born to Otis Marshall Preston and Angeline Lawrence Preston. He was raised at Roxbury where his father was the owner and operator of a farm. Bruce married to Carrie Eugenia Stevens on 29 March 1893 at Davenport, New York. They made their home on Locust Street at Roxbury where Bruce was engaged primarily as a carpenter. In 1905, he was the census enumerator for Roxbury. He was associated with the Golden Seal Assurance Society briefly about 1910. Bruce, a Jean line cousin, was active with the John More Association. In 1915, he served on the Local Arrangements Committee and the Permanent Headquarters Committee. Bruce was active in his community and in 1930 was the Postmaster of Roxbury. Bruce and Carrie were the parents of four children; Angie Preston, Grace Stevens Preston, Kenneth Bruce Preston, and Otis Samuel Preston. Bruce is buried with his wife at United Methodist Church Cemetery at Roxbury. The graves of his daughter, Grace, and son and daughter-in-law, Otis and Margaret, are on either side.
