Joseph Alfred Clarke

Born 14 February 1879 at South Gilboa, Schoharie County, New York
Died 4 January 1933 at Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York

Joseph was the youngest of five children born to John H. Clarke and Mary Gould More Clarke. His mother died when he was only two-years of age. His father remarried in 1882 and it was his step-mother, Ellura Garrett Clarke, who assumed the role of mother to Joseph and his siblings. Ellura and John would have eight children of their own during their marriage. Joseph was raised at South Gilboa where his father was a farmer. Joseph married to Edith May Bruce on 22 December 1900 at Worcester, New York. They made their home first at Gilboa where he was a creamery laborer. Joseph and Edith were the parents of one child, Walter Bruce Clarke. The family relocated to Kelly Corners, New York about 1910 and to Grand Gorge, New York about 1918 where, at both places, Joseph was a creamery man with W. M. Evans Dairy Company. Joseph’s father died in 1918 and the family returned briefly to South Gilboa. The family relocated to Colonie, New York about 1925 where Joseph was a gas station attendant. And, they relocated to Schenectady, New York about 1930 where he was a garage foreman. Joseph is buried at Stamford Cemetery at Stamford, New York. His wife, Edith, who died in 1971, is presumably buried with him.
