May Frisbee Van Wagner

Born 3 July 1855 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York
Died 27 January 1927 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York

May was the youngest of four daughters born to John Frisbee and his second wife, Jane Smith Frisbee. Her father’s first wife was the sister of May’s mother. May was raised at Roxbury where her father was the owner and operator of a farm. May married to John Nelson Van Wagner on 1 November 1871 at Roxbury and they made their home at that place. May and John were the parents of two children; John Nelson Van Wagner, Junior and Helen F. Van Wagner. John Junior died three days after his birth. The family resided at Albany, New York in 1886 where John was a conductor and relocated to Troy, New York about 1889. Her husband died in 1892 and May remained at Troy until about 1910 when she relocated to Roxbury. At Roxbury, she and her good friend, Gertrude Kerslake, resided at the Orchard Street home of May’s sister, Elizabeth, the widow of Burrett Beebe Bouton.
