Melvin Herman Torbeck

Born 28 April 1923 at Byron, Thayer County, Nebraska
Died 7 June 1993 at Castle Point, Dutchess County, New York

Melvin was the son of Herman Henry Torbeck and Marie Nordbrock Torbeck. He was raised at Washington, Nebraska where his father was a grain company manager. His mother died in 1926 when he was only three-years of age. His father married again in 1933 to Emma Weber and it was she who assumed the responsibility of raising him to maturity. The family relocated to Johnson, Nebraska about 1935 where his father was a grain dealer. Melvin served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1951; during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Melvin married to Rosilla Morehouse Lattin on 17 August 1952 at Downsville, New York. In 1959, they resided at San Diego, California where Melvin was a teacher at Gompers Junior High School and where his wife was a teacher at Knox School. From the 1970s through the 1990s, they resided at Halcottsville, New York. Melvin’s last known residence was at Poughkeepsie, New York. Melvin and Rosilla were the parents of two children, a daughter and a son.
