William M. Beckley



Born 2 October 1867 at (probably Stamford), Delaware County, New York
Died 22 February 1901 at Manhattan, New York, New York

William was the son of William R. Beckley and Rebecca H. Maynard Beckley. He was raised at the Village of Stamford in the Town of Harpersfield where his father was a speculator, a produce dealer, and a merchant. After completing his education, he clerked at the post office at Stamford and at Shandaken, New York before returning to Stamford. William was a merchant when he married to Cornelia Laraway Preston on 17 December 1894 at Stamford. She was the daughter of Hamilton Smith Preston and Mary E. Barner Preston. William and Cornelia made their home first at Stamford where he was the owner of a well-appointed store selling gentlemen’s furnishings and tailoring services. They relocated to West 119th Street at Manhattan, New York about 1900 where he was a salesman. William and Cornelia were the parents of one child, Frances Preston Beckley. His wife and daughter survived him. Cornelia married again in 1912 to Harold George Kling. She died in 1936 at Rochester, New York. William is buried at Stamford Cemetery at Stamford.
