Otis Samuel Preston



Born 3 April 1903 at Roxbury, Delaware County, New York
Died 5 August 1969 at Altamont, Albany County, New York

Otis was the youngest of four children born to Bruce Smith Preston and Carrie Eugenia Stevens Preston. He was raised at Roxbury where his father was primarily a carpenter. Otis worked briefly as a post office clerk at Roxbury about 1930. He was a mason at Roxbury when he married to Margaret Morrison Ballard on 31 March 1933 at Montrose, Pennsylvania. She was a school teacher at Roxbury. They made their home at Altamont, New York where he was employed by General Electric at Schenectady, New York. They relocated to Walton, New York about 1940 where her husband worked odd jobs for a woodworking manufacturer but soon after returned to Altamont. Otis took great pride in caring for his home, “Severson House” on Brandle Road at Altamont. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Otis was a member of Altamont Reformed Church. He died suddenly while mowing his yard. Otis and Margaret were the parents of two children, Marijean Preston and Judith Preston. Otis is buried with his wife, and next to his parents, at United Methodist Church Cemetery at Roxbury.
