Judith “Judy” Preston Heald

Born 8 December 1936 at Kingston, Ulster County, New York
Died 8 September 2010 at Ballston Spa, Saratoga County, New York

Judy was the daughter of Otis Samuel Preston and Margaret Morrison Ballard Preston. She was born to her mother’s cousin, Julian W. Earl, and his wife, Flora Earl, and adopted by the Prestons about 1940. Judy was raised at Altamont, New York and graduated, in 1954, from Voorheesville High School at Voorheesville, New York. Judy married to Harold Douglas Heald on 21 June 1955 at Weldon, North Carolina. They made their home first at Schenectady, New York and relocated to Connecticut about 1961 where her husband was a flight test mechanic at Bloomfield, Connecticut. When Judy’s father died in 1969, they returned to Altamont and purchased her childhood home, the Severson House. Judy and Harold separated about 1976 and she relocated to Florida. They were divorced in 1979. Judy and Harold were the parents of four children, two sons and two daughters. Judy married next to Delbert Eugene Alfrey on 5 July 1980 at North Port, Florida but that marriage ended in divorce six months later. Judy returned to New York and made her home at Syracuse where she worked for the City until her retirement in 1988. She was musically talented and enjoyed painting. With her children at her side, she died at her home of lung cancer and donated her body to science for medical study. Her remains were buried at Walton Cemetery. She was my fifth cousin once removed.
