Charles was
the son of Edwin Guild and Harriet More Guild. He was raised
at Walton where his father was a prominent retail merchant. His father died
when he was but 16-years of age. His mother and his maternal uncle, Burr More,
assumed responsibility for him until he came of an age to manage his own
affairs. For a brief period of time, about 1892, he was partnered with J. M. Hanford as a retail merchant. Charles married to Ella True Grover on 18 February 1896 at Walton.
They made their home on North Street at that place. They relocated to St. John
Street at Walton about 1920. Charles and Ella were the parents of four
children; Edwin More Guild, Archibald Taylor Guild, Harriet Elizabeth Guild,
and Abram True Guild. Abram was later known as Charles True Guild. I found no occupation for Charles after his marriage and I assume he was a speculator, as was his Uncle Burr for some time. Charles
attended the first John More Association reunion in 1890 and was chosen
a David Line representative on the Permanent Committee; a position he
held until his death. Charles was buried at Walton Cemetery in a Guild family
plot that includes his parents; his brothers, William and
Frank, who died in infancy; and his paternal grandparents, Everett Guild and Hannah Perkins Guild. His wife was buried with
him upon her death in 1936. Charles was my second cousin four times removed.
