Harry Fitch Marvin



Born 30 September 1875 at Walton, Delaware County, New York
Died 5 August 1937 at Cooperstown, Otsego County, New York

Harry was the fifth of seven children born to Matthew Weed Marvin and Isabella Sinclair Marvin. He was raised at Walton where his father was a lawyer. Harry attended Walton Schools and then Albany Business College at Albany, New York. He was employed first by Robert Winthrop and Company at New York City and sometime before 1910, he returned to Walton as a clerk for First National Bank. In 1917, he campaigned for, and lost, the Republican nomination for Delaware County Clerk. About 1920, he established an insurance company representing Travelers’ Insurance. In 1922, he was selected as clerk of the County Board of Supervisors. Harry was a past commander of Walton Lodge Number 559, Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of the Delaware Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Kalurah Temple Mystic Shrine; Norwich Commandery Number 46, Knights Templar; and was president of Club Royale. Harry was an active member of First Congregational Church and was active in the civic and social life of Walton village and township. Harry married to Anna Guild Tobey on 26 May 1908 at Walton. Harry and Anna were the parents of four children; Reinold Tiffany Marvin, Isabel Marvin, Matthew Weed Marvin, and Harriet Elizabeth Marvin. Harry died at Bassett Memorial Hospital in Cooperstown after an illness of ten days. He was buried in a Marvin family plot at Walton Cemetery. He was my third cousin three times removed.
